Rock me, baby

We’re moving so soon! I’m getting pretty excited to let my consumer instincts explode all over our new abode! I’ve already ordered the living room rug, paint samples, shade fabric samples, extra crib bedding, home office accessories from the Muji store, bought new All Clad from Williams-Sonoma…

Mike recently compared me to a mall walker, since every night I “go to the mall” – albeit on the couch. He may have been trying to hurt my feelings but when someone basically tells you, “All you ever do is something you really enjoy!” it’s hardly offensive, you know? So fuck ‘im.

ANNNYYYWAYYY — I’m obviously thinking about the widgie’s room constantly and that includes pint-sized furniture and playthings. Dig the above rocker!

Deets: Designed by Björn Dahlström and available in either red or black. Made in wood/MDF. Seat height 12″. From 12 month of age. $165. Schwing!

Can you hear me?

Our friend Whitney came in from Santa Barbara to visit! She is pregnant with twin boys and the nug was eager to connect with them…

I wonder if babies really are aware of other “new life”…I think they must be. Even when kids are nearby (in a restaurant, on the subway, etc) Virginia is captivated by them. She doesn’t want to let them out of her sight. She can tell they are ‘phase 2’ whereas the adults in her life as something else entirely – caregivers, teachers, problem-solvers. It’s neat.

Virginia with Morgan

Morgan was there too and worked her magic when Virginia got fussy around lunchtime. I had brought a bottle but not any food for her. Can’t wait until the Cheerios stage…

Thanks to Joelle for hosting a yummy breakfast for us all!

Baby explosion!

Last night was the double baby shower for 2 of my coworker pals whose due dates are within TWO WEEKS of each other!

Dianna and Courtney make their grand entrance

The rest of us girls were excited to see them come in as they were not only the guests of honor, but it meant we could now dig in to the delicious bounty of FOOD that had been tantilizing us for, well… MINUTES!

Delicious food & hanging puffballs: shower requisites

Dianna is having a BOY!

When Dianna grabbed my pile I realized they looked a lot like Hannukah gifts. Oops? Whatevs – pacifiers and miracle blankets and sleep sacks- gooooooodnight!

Courtney is having a ....??

Is it obnoxious to get a woman who decided not to learn the gender of her child a seersucker dress with bunnies on it? Clearly, I do not think so. Courtney’s got two WONDERFUL boys at home, so this was just a little bit of wishful ideation. However, if she has another boy, he’ll be an adorable little lovebug who Virginia can date when I think she is old enough to cope with boys (25? 27?)

Dianna and Courtney received a mountain of gifts! The rest of us played shower bingo and I still managed to lose despite having a baby 10 seconds ago. I couldn’t think of more than 4 things a baby needs? Duh.

We let a guy take this photo so it’s blurry – but you get the idea.

All this fun meant that Mike got to have some father/daughter time with Virginia, who was, by the time I got home, asleep in her NEW CRIB in the foyer (which is where it will live until we move next month) I am so glad she loves her crib and took to it immediately. I am, admittedly, also *very* pleased with myself for actually (successfully) MAKING her bedding. I’ll have to photograph that business and show you (aka: mom, cousins)

China stops using lead, starts using CADMIUM? Aye yai yai

Personally, I try my best to avoid EVER buying anything made in China for Virginia, but gifts from well-meaning family and friends creep into my life and at risk of seeming ungrateful I incorporate them into V’s toy realm.

New policy: Fuck that. Also, note to would-be gift-givers: Here are some places you can buy toys NOT made in China …

NMC Toys (I think the NMC even stands for NOT MADE in CHINA – so that’s handy)

Greenleaf Dollhouses

Louisville Sluggers — still made in the USA!

and a whole bunch more on this list!

Bite me

Friends! Me & Mike & the wriggler are moving next month! Next door! We found the perfect two bedroom apartment was right under our noses- or – more accurately, a few feet to the right of our noses.

Now naturally, the decorating ideas are flowing freely and having just stumbled upon THIS, and what with V’s existing pink dresser, I’m wondering if a full-blown Neapolitan theme will emerge…

Solid foam throughout. Chocolate wafer cushions are covered in canvas, vanilla ice cream center is covered in velvet, with wooden legs
